Violet, and Miss Lillie , Our Cats |
|
Our kittles are sweet but also are indispensable as a skilled mouse and gopher eradication team. It sounds cruel—but our cats must be ranch smart enough to be able to avoid the bob-cats and coyotes that roam the area. Violet is aloof and proud but comes round for food and the occasional nap with while Miss Lillie eats, and rove the farm.
Meet the Tres Sabores sheep: Decca and her daughter Nickeletta, Quincy, and Fred. Populations of sheep or other grazing animals are essential to the self-sustaining biodynamic vineyard system. Over the course of the season, our animals help mow the spring cover-crop of legumes and grasses, weed-eat around the olives and along the vineyard headlands, chomp down on the summer suckers and laterals we pull from the vines, and tip the vine shoots in the late summer. And all year long, their droppings in the corral contribute to a balanced compost pile. |
